MEDICAL BILLING

medical  billing  for dentistry

MEDICAL  BILLING  is the next big thing in dentistry, it opens up a huge new revenue stream unrealized by most dentists at this point.  There's no doubt this is a time consuming venture, but it is lucrative and will allow your patients to maximize their dental benefits!  There are quite a few resources available to you, here's a simple breakdown of options

Option 1:  Learn to process medical claims yourself
This is the route most people attempt at first due to the fact it's the lowest cost option.  There are quite a few options out there for classes on how to do dental/medical billing.  Unless you have an employee who has had medical billing experience in the past or is able to put a good amount of time into this option, you will probably find this to be the least effective/efficient option.  Medical insurance companies will deny your claims in the beginning quite often due to insufficient or wrong information.  Many dental practices get frustrated and stop "trying" medical billing.  If you are dedicated and stick to it you can be successful.

Here is a resource to look into for education - Dr Chris Farrugia - Successful Medical Billing for Dentists

Option 2:  Have a reputable company do the medical billing for you
This route is not as popular at first because the companies that handle your medical insurance claims take a 8-10% cut for handling all the processing.  But with that said they handle everything, they know what they are doing and it gets done right without the frustration.  There are quite a few companies out there that doing dental/medical billing, here is one option to take a look at, as I hear of other reputable companies I will add them here, click on the image below to go their site.

Option 3:  A hybrid approach between learning yourself and having someone do it for you

This is an interesting approach that I like, where Sue Weiss comes into the practice to train your team how to do medical billing and get you setup, including proper patient intake procedures, verification of medical insurance eligibility and plan benefits, preparation of an audit survivable clinical record, as well as processing and submission of clean claims for direct reimbursement or reimbursement to the patient.  They will help you with your processing until you are comfortable doing it yourself, if you find you can't do it Sue also offers additional services where she will do the processing.  Check out her website here
